Today's Chandra Grahan: When and where to witness the partial lunar eclipse

Bhubaneswar, Oct 28: Tonight, people across the globe will have the opportunity to witness a partial lunar eclipse, known as Chandra Grahan, marking the final eclipse of the year 2023. This rare celestial event follows closely on the heels of a solar eclipse that took place on October 14.
According to an official announcement from the Ministry of Science, the partial lunar eclipse is scheduled for October 29, 2023. The Moon will first enter the penumbral phase at midnight on October 28, and the umbral phase will commence in the early hours of October 29. The eclipse is anticipated to last for a duration of 1 hour and 19 minutes, with the umbral phase beginning at 01:05 AM on October 29 and concluding at 02:24 AM.
Residents of Odisha and India, as well as individuals in the Western Pacific Ocean, Australia, Asia, Europe, Africa, eastern South America, north-eastern North America, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and the South Pacific Ocean, will have the opportunity to witness this celestial spectacle, as stated in a release by the Press Information Bureau (PIB).
However, this unique event will have an impact on the festive season occurring on October 28. As the eclipse coincides with midnight, the celebration of Kumar Purnima, observed on the same day in Odisha, will be affected. In accordance with astrologers, food preparation will be halted at 4:04 PM on October 28, and the rituals associated with Kumar Purnima can be performed before 4:00 PM on the same day.
