IMD warns of heavy rainfall in Odisha as low-pressure forms over Bay of Bengal

Bhubaneswar, Aug 11: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the formation of a low-pressure system over the Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal by August 13, which is expected to trigger widespread rainfall across Odisha starting Monday.
According to the regional weather office, several districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days. On Tuesday, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Koraput are expected to receive intense showers, while Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar may witness heavy rainfall.
The wet spell will continue on Wednesday, with heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast for Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, and Gajapati. Ganjam, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balangir, and Nuapada are also likely to be affected. Rain accompanied by thunderstorms is possible in several coastal, interior, and southern districts. By Thursday, Malkangiri and Koraput may face another round of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Authorities have urged residents to remain alert, monitor official weather bulletins, and take safety precautions to prevent rain-related hazards during this period of intense downpour.
