BJP reshuffles national team; Baijayant Panda elevated as Vice-President, Sambit Patra gets North East role
Bhubaneswar, Aug 17: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced a major reshuffle of its national organisation, with party president Nitin Nabin appointing senior Odisha leader Baijayant Jay Panda as a national vice-president and BJP national spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra as the party’s North East coordinator.
The appointments, effective immediately, were announced through an official party release and are being viewed as Nabin’s first major organisational exercise since taking charge as BJP president.
Panda, a former MP and prominent national leader from Odisha, has been given a key position in the party’s central organisation. Patra, another prominent Odisha leader and one of the BJP’s best-known national spokespersons, will oversee organisational coordination in the Northeast, a strategically important region comprising eight states.
The reshuffle also saw former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat and senior leader Ram Madhav appointed national vice-presidents.
Former Union Minister Smriti Irani and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb have been appointed national general secretaries.
The BJP retained B.L. Santhosh as National General Secretary (Organisation), while Shiv Prakash and Saudan Singh will continue as National Joint General Secretaries (Organisation), ensuring continuity in the party’s organisational structure.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed national treasurer.The new team includes general secretaries Smriti Irani, Biplab Kumar Deb, Vinod Tawde, Sunil Bansal, Satish Poonia, Gajendra Patel, Harish Dwivedi and Sanjay Bhatia. The reshuffle brings together experienced leaders, former chief ministers and regional faces as the BJP prepares for upcoming electoral challenges.
