Bhubaneswar, Sep 7: The Odisha government is working on a proposal to merge the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) and the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) into a single unified board, a senior official said during the CHSE’s 44th Foundation Day celebration in Bhubaneswar on Monday.

The proposed merger is aimed at streamlining the school education system and facilitating further reforms in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020).

Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the School and Mass Education Department, Dr N. Thirumala Naik, said the government is focusing on curriculum reforms with greater emphasis on experiential and skill-based learning. The state is also working on preparing reference books in Odia for science-stream students to support their preparation for competitive examinations.

Naik said the Council has been provided Rs 10 crore for developing digital educational content to help students access quality learning resources.

The government is also giving greater importance to vocational education, with efforts underway to ensure that Plus Two students acquire skills in at least one trade. Measures are being taken to strengthen government vocational higher secondary schools.

Meanwhile, Plus Two courses are proposed to be introduced through open schooling under the State Institute of Open Schooling (SIOS). Chief Minister has approved the initiative, with courses expected to begin soon.

Kotpad MLA Rupu Bhatra, the Chief Guest, praised CHSE’s examination management and stressed the importance of quality education.
