Jatani Ganesh immersion tragedy: Two DJ owners arrested
Bhubaneswar, Oct 1: The Commissionerate Police have arrested two DJ owners and seized their vehicles in connection with the tragic roof collapse during a Ganesh idol immersion procession in Jatani that claimed one life and left seven others injured.
The arrested persons have been identified as the owners of AI Pintu DJ from Dhenkanal and Smart DJ from Balasore. Police have also served a notice on the owner of the building whose concrete slab collapsed during the procession.
The incident occurred late Saturday night on Jatani Main Road when a large immersion procession carrying more than 40 Lord Ganesh idols was passing through the area. Despite restrictions on high-decibel music, DJ systems were allegedly being played at high volume during the procession.
According to police, several people had gathered beneath a two-storey building to watch the procession. The concrete canopy reportedly collapsed amid vibrations allegedly caused by the loud DJ music, trapping people underneath.
Among those injured was 30-year-old Biswajeet Barik of Harirajpur in Delanga. He was initially rushed to Jatani Community Health Centre and later shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where doctors declared him brought dead. Seven others, including two women, reportedly sustained injuries in the incident.
Police said further action would be taken against organisers and others found violating prescribed norms during the immersion procession. The investigation is continuing to establish the circumstances that led to the collapse.
