Bhubaneswar, Sep 29: The Odisha Vigilance on Monday conducted simultaneous searches at seven locations linked to Umakant Samantaray, Assistant Director of Factories and Boilers, Sambalpur, in connection with an alleged disproportionate assets (DA) case.

The searches were carried out on the strength of warrants issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur. A Vigilance team comprising eight Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), 11 Inspectors, 11 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) and other supporting personnel participated in the operation.

According to the Vigilance department, searches were conducted at properties and official premises associated with Samantaray in Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar, Puri and Khordha districts.

The locations included his residential 3BHK flat at Sun City Apartment in Dhankauda, Sambalpur; a duplex at Nandan Vihar on Nandankanan Road in Bhubaneswar; and a building near Indus College of Engineering at Barakuda near Jatani.

Searches were also conducted at a triple-storeyed building at Tota Behera Sahi in Baliguali, Puri, and two double-storeyed buildings in Balugaon, including one at Subash Marg and another at his native place in Ashok Nagar.

The Vigilance team also searched Samantaray’s office chamber at the office of the Deputy Director, Factories and Boilers, Sambalpur.

The searches were continuing till the latest report. Details of assets or documents seized during the operation are awaited.
