Magnitude 3.9 earthquake jolts Odisha’s Debagada, tremors felt in Anugola
Bhubaneswar, Sep 29: An earthquake of magnitude 3.9 shook Odisha’s Debagada district on Monday night, with tremors also being felt in parts of neighbouring Anugola district, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
The earthquake occurred at 10:48:20 pm on September 28, 2026, the NCS reported. The epicentre was located at 21.179°N latitude and 84.774°E longitude, at a depth of 20 kilometres. The seismological agency classified the tremor as a reviewed event.
The earthquake was reportedly felt in several parts of Debagada district, including Chadheimara, Barkot, Deogarh, Kundheigola and Reamal. Residents in parts of Anugola district also experienced tremors, with reports coming from Khamar, Patakamunda, Kosala and Bagadia, as well as some areas of Chhendipada block.
The sudden movement of the ground caused brief concern among residents in the affected areas. Some people reportedly stepped outside their homes as a precaution after feeling the tremors.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or structural damage following the earthquake. However, authorities are expected to assess the situation and monitor the affected areas for any possible impact.
The earthquake comes amid continued seismic activity being monitored by the NCS across different parts of the country. Further information regarding the tremor’s intensity and any damage, if reported, is awaited.
