Bhubaneswar, Sep 29: A fresh allegation of ragging has surfaced at Ravenshaw University, with a second-year undergraduate student of Jagannath Hostel alleging mental and physical harassment by a group of third-year students following a dispute over an online mobile game.

According to the complaint submitted by the student, the incident occurred after he objected to what he alleged were unfair means being used by some senior students while playing the game. His objection reportedly led to an argument, following which the seniors allegedly called him near their hostel room and subjected him to mental and physical harassment.

The student subsequently approached the university’s Anti-Ragging Cell and lodged a formal complaint seeking intervention in the matter. He also sent emails to the university Registrar and Chief Warden, requesting appropriate action against those allegedly involved in the incident.

The exact nature and extent of the alleged harassment were not immediately known. The allegations are yet to be independently verified.

The incident has once again brought student safety and the issue of ragging in university hostels into focus. University authorities are expected to examine the complaint and take further action based on their inquiry.
