Bhubaneswar, Sep 7: Following the recent building collapse in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area, which has claimed seven lives so far, the Odisha government has intensified measures to ensure the structural safety of buildings across the state.

Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said the government has initiated steps to identify and demolish weak and unsafe government buildings in urban areas. Notices will also be issued to owners of private structures found to be unsafe, directing them to take necessary action, including demolition wherever required.

Speaking to mediapersons, Mahapatra said notices have already been issued for the demolition of several dilapidated school buildings and Anganwadi centres. Authorities have also been directed to identify and remove unsafe structures located within city limits.

The minister stressed that the government is keeping a close watch on the condition of old and vulnerable buildings to prevent untoward incidents and protect public safety. He said the administration would take necessary action wherever structures are found to pose a threat to residents or the general public.

The government’s latest move comes amid growing concerns over structural safety following building collapse incidents in different parts of the country. Officials have been directed to remain vigilant and ensure timely action against hazardous structures.
