Bhubaneswar, Sep 5: Kalinganagar police in Odisha’s Jajpur district have arrested two men for allegedly raping a woman after luring her to an abandoned house near Chandikhol on the pretext of taking her to her ailing husband.

The accused have been identified as Ramachandra Sahu alias Kanhu, from the Badachana police station area, and Chhabindra Tarai, from the Jenapur police station area.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police (Kalinganagar) Suprasanna Mallick, the incident occurred on September 1. The woman, a resident of the Kalinganagar police station area, was at Duburi Chhak when the accused allegedly approached her and told her that her husband was unwell and staying at Chandikhol.

Concerned about her husband, the woman travelled to Chandikhol by bus, where the two men were allegedly waiting for her. They reportedly offered to take her to her husband on a motorcycle but instead took her to an abandoned house near Chandikhol, where they allegedly sexually assaulted her.

The woman contacted her relatives the next day and returned home. After receiving initial treatment at a hospital, she lodged a complaint with Kalinganagar police.

Acting on the directions of the Jajpur SP, police launched an investigation and arrested the accused following a raid. The motorcycle allegedly used in the crime and a mobile phone were seized. The accused were medically examined before being produced in court. Further investigation is underway.
