Two youths die of suffocation from generator fumes in Odisha’s Kendujhar
Bhubaneswar, Oct 28: In a tragic incident, two youths died of suffocation after inhaling fumes from a running generator, while three others were left critically ill in Odisha’s Kendujhar district.
The incident occurred at Sudunga village under Nayakote police station limits in Banspal block while Laxmi Puja celebrations were underway in the village.
According to reports, five youths were sleeping inside a house on Tuesday night with a generator running nearby. The fumes emitted by the generator reportedly accumulated inside the house, causing all five to lose consciousness due to suffocation.
On Wednesday morning, villagers became suspicious when the house remained closed and there was no response from inside. They subsequently broke open the door and found the five youths unconscious. The villagers immediately rescued them and rushed them to Banspal Hospital for treatment.
However, two of the youths died on the way to the hospital. The deceased were identified as Rajendra Santa and Nitu Santa, both residents of Sudunga village.
The three other youths—Jagannath Giri, Prashant Dehuri and Niradash Dehuri—were initially taken to the hospital before being shifted to Kendujhar District Headquarters Hospital as their condition remained critical.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over Sudunga village, with residents mourning the untimely deaths of the two youths.
