Bhubaneswar, Sep 7: A 40-year-old man allegedly shot his wife dead following a family dispute at Landimal village under Redhakhol police station limits in Sambalpur district on Monday, police said.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place at the couple’s residence following an alleged dispute between the husband and wife. The woman, who had been married to the accused for more than 15 years, was found dead inside their matrimonial home after the shooting.

Soon after receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The accused husband was apprehended shortly after the alleged killing and is being questioned to establish the sequence of events leading to the incident.

Police have also seized the country-made firearm allegedly used in the crime. The weapon has been taken into custody for further examination as part of the investigation.

A case has been registered at Redhakhol police station, and investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the death, including the nature of the dispute that allegedly preceded the shooting.

Police are also expected to record statements of family members and other persons familiar with the incident. Further details are likely to emerge as the investigation progresses.
