Bhubaneswar, Aug 11: Bargarh district has been shaken by the tragic death of a 13-year-old girl, who succumbed to over 80% burn injuries at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla. She was found in a half-charred state on a football field near her home in Phiringmala village under Gaisilet police limits.

Initially suspected to be a case of self-immolation, the investigation took a shocking turn after an audio clip emerged in which the victim accused another girl of setting her on fire. In the recording, made while villagers rushed to her aid, she desperately pleaded for help, directly contradicting early assumptions of suicide.

The Class VIII student had returned from her hostel a month earlier due to illness. Sources said she was upset over a hurtful remark made by a classmate days before the incident.

Police have formed a three-member special team to probe the case and are reconstructing the events leading up to the attack. A case of unnatural death has been registered, and officials are working to uncover the truth behind this chilling tragedy.
