Odisha braces for heavy rainfall from August 12 due to low-pressure system

Bhubaneswar, Aug 8: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a significant increase in rainfall activity across Odisha starting August 12, due to the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to intensify, bringing widespread rainfall and strong winds to several parts of the state.
In the past 24 hours, light to moderate rain has already been recorded in many areas, with Aska in Ganjam district receiving the highest rainfall at 90 mm. As the weather system strengthens, the intensity of rainfall is expected to increase over the next few days.
The IMD has issued warnings of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Puri district within the next 24 hours. Other districts likely to be affected by heavy rainfall include Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, and Keonjhar. Thunderstorms accompanied by wind speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are also likely during this period.
Additionally, due to a cyclonic storm brewing in the sea, rough sea conditions are expected near Bangladesh, West Bengal, and adjoining regions. Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea until further notice for safety reasons.
