Odisha flood situation improves as major rivers show falling trend
Bhubaneswar, Aug 21: The flood situation in Odisha continues to be closely monitored as relief, rescue, restoration and essential services remain operational round-the-clock across affected areas. According to the latest report of the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) under the Office of the Special Relief Commissioner, seven districts—Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Kendrapara and Sundargarh—have been affected.
A total of 76 blocks, 505 gram panchayats, 1,703 villages and 12 Urban Local Bodies have been impacted, affecting around 13.45 lakh people. While the situation remained challenging in several districts over the past few days, major rivers are now showing a falling trend and flowing below danger levels.
As a precautionary measure, 4,87,350 people have been evacuated and accommodated in 880 relief shelters. These centres are providing safe drinking water, sanitation, lighting, medical assistance and cooked food. In marooned villages, response teams are delivering cooked meals and drinking water directly to households.
Free kitchens have so far provided cooked food to 4,95,833 beneficiaries, while 4,765 polythene sheets/rolls have been distributed.
A total of 126 response teams, including 32 ODRAF, eight NDRF, 46 Fire Services and 40 Police/Civil Defence/Local teams, have been deployed. So far, 30,303 people have been rescued, 55,139 shifted by boats, and teams have reached 492 cut-off villages. Additionally, 124 emergency medical evacuations have been carried out.
