Bhubaneswar, Aug 11: In a horrifying case of violence, a 34-year-old woman was brutally murdered and her 12-year-old daughter severely injured by unidentified assailants at their rented home under Nimakhandi police limits in Ganjam district on Sunday night.

The deceased, identified as Gayatri Swain (33), had been living with her daughter Nilam Swain in a rented house at Srima Nagar’s second line since August 3, while her husband, Sadhu Swain, resides in Bhubaneswar.

According to sources, the attackers barged into the house after dinner and assaulted the mother-daughter duo with a sword. Gayatri died instantly from her grievous injuries, while Nilam was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, where her condition remains critical.

Shockingly, the perpetrators allegedly locked the house from the outside before fleeing the scene. The landlord, noticing the locked door the next morning, alerted Gayatri’s husband, leading to the grim discovery.

Police have registered a case and launched a probe to identify the culprits and establish the motive behind the heinous crime. The brutal nature of the attack has left the local community in deep shock and fear.
