Former IAS officer Sujata Karthikeyan joins BJD in significant political move
Bhubaneswar, June 25: In a significant political development in Odisha, former IAS officer Sujata Rout Karthikeyan formally joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Thursday, marking her entry into active politics.
The induction ceremony was held at Sankha Bhawan, the party headquarters in Bhubaneswar, in the presence of BJD president and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Several senior party leaders, former ministers, MPs and MLAs attended the event, highlighting the significance of her entry into the regional party.
Welcoming Sujata Karthikeyan into the party fold, Naveen Patnaik officially announced her induction and expressed confidence in her ability to contribute to the organisation. Sources within the party indicated that the decision to induct her was taken directly by the BJD supremo, ending weeks of speculation surrounding her political future.
A 2000-batch IAS officer, Sujata Karthikeyan resigned from government service earlier this year. Her move into politics has drawn considerable attention, particularly because she is the wife of former bureaucrat-turned-politician V. K. Pandian, who played a prominent role in the previous BJD government.
Political observers believe her administrative experience and public service background could strengthen the party’s efforts to reconnect with voters. Her induction comes at a crucial time when the BJD is seeking to rebuild its organisational strength and regain political momentum after its setback in the 2024 Assembly elections.
The development is expected to spark fresh discussions about the party’s future strategy and leadership dynamics in Odisha’s evolving political landscape.
