Bhubaneswar, Aug 24: Empathy, compassion and sensitivity are the fundamental principles of the governance system, and listening to people’s problems and ensuring their timely resolution remain the top priorities of the Odisha government, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Monday.

Addressing the media after attending the 20th state-level grievance hearing programme at the Chief Minister’s Grievance Hearing Cell in Unit-II, Majhi said his government was committed to standing with people in their joys and sorrows.

The Chief Minister personally heard grievances during the programme, which was attended by 10 senior ministers and secretary-level officers from various departments. He said the government would reach out wherever people faced difficulties and provide necessary assistance.

Majhi said the government had supported people during floods, cyclones and droughts. He also highlighted assistance provided after untimely rains in 2024 and the relief package announced for the current flood situation.

According to an official statement, 14,519 of 15,327 grievances received during the previous 19 state-level hearings—around 95 per cent—have been resolved. District, tehsil and block-level grievance hearings are also being conducted regularly.

By the end of July, 2,69,394 grievances had been heard at the district level, with 87 per cent resolved.

The Chief Minister also personally met differently-abled persons and seriously ill people waiting outside the grievance cell, accepted their petitions and directed officials to take immediate action.
