Bhubaneswar, Aug 24: The Odisha Government is maintaining constant vigil over the rainfall and flood situation triggered by the low-pressure system over the State, with the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) monitoring developments round the clock. According to the situation report available up to 11 a.m. on Monday, the overall situation remains under control.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the low-pressure area formed over north coastal Odisha and adjoining regions now lies over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha. It is likely to move northwestwards during the next 24 hours.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Subarnapur and Boudh. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph may also occur in these districts.

Heavy rainfall is also expected in several other districts, including Balasore, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam and Nayagarh.

Odisha recorded an average rainfall of 32.9 mm during the past 24 hours, with Joda block in Keonjhar receiving the highest 169.4 mm. From August 1 to 24, the State received 327 mm rainfall, 18.6 per cent above normal. The June 1-August 24 cumulative rainfall stood at 1,083.2 mm, 32.1 per cent above normal.

As of 9 a.m., Baitarani at Akhuapada and Jalaka at Mathani were slightly above warning levels.
