Bhubaneswar, Aug 24: Three private school buses allegedly operating without valid permits and fitness certificates were seized during an enforcement drive in the Banki area of Kataka district on Monday.

According to reports, the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Kataka, and the Odisha Motor Vehicle Department (OMVD) jointly conducted the checking drive as part of efforts to ensure compliance with motor vehicle regulations and strengthen safety standards for schoolchildren.

During the inspection, the enforcement team intercepted three private buses that were carrying school students. Officials subsequently verified the documents and found that the vehicles were allegedly being operated without valid permits and mandatory fitness certificates.

The absence of these documents raised concerns over the safety and regulatory compliance of the buses, which were being used to transport children. Following the detection of the violations, officials seized all three vehicles and initiated further verification.

The authorities are now examining the remaining documents associated with the buses to determine whether they had violated any other provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and related safety regulations.

The enforcement drive comes amid continued efforts by transport authorities to ensure that school buses meet prescribed safety and operational standards. Officials have advised vehicle operators to keep all mandatory documents valid and comply with safety norms while transporting schoolchildren.
