Two farmers electrocuted while returning from farmland in Jagatsinghpur
Bhubaneswar, Aug 24: Two farmers were electrocuted after allegedly coming in contact with an electric wire while returning from their farmland at Benukhanda village under Sadar police station limits in Jagatsinghpur district on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Sagar Bhoi and Ajay Sahoo, both residents of Benukhanda village.
According to reports, the two farmers had gone to their agricultural field to carry out routine farm work. After completing their work, they were reportedly returning home on a tractor when they allegedly came in contact with an electric wire laid underground in the area.
The sudden contact with the live wire reportedly resulted in severe electric shocks, causing both men to collapse at the spot. Hearing about the incident, local villagers rushed to the location and rescued the two farmers. They were subsequently taken to the Jagatsinghpur District Headquarters Hospital for medical attention. However, after examining them, doctors declared both men dead.
The incident triggered concern among local residents, who alleged that the electric wire had been laid underground illegally and without adequate safety measures. Villagers demanded an immediate investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the deaths and urged the authorities to take stringent action against those found responsible.
The incident has left the local community shocked and raised concerns over electrical safety in agricultural areas.
