Bhubaneswar, Aug 25: Police have formed special teams to investigate the alleged murder of an elderly woman whose body was found buried beneath a concrete structure inside a rented house in the Kumbharapada area of Puri city, officials said on Tuesday.

Puri SP Prateek Singh said a detailed investigation had been launched, with separate teams assigned to collect evidence, gather technical intelligence and trace the suspected accused.

“The investigation was started on August 24, and the post-mortem examination was conducted today in the presence of the IIC to ensure that all procedures are followed properly and scientifically,” Singh told reporters. A forensic team has also collected evidence from the spot, he added.

According to the SP, one team is gathering information about a suspected person identified by the deceased woman’s son, while another is focusing on technical intelligence and other investigative leads.

Police said they are also awaiting the post-mortem report, which is expected to provide crucial clues regarding the circumstances and cause of death. The motive behind the alleged murder is yet to be established.

The incident came to light at around 10.30 pm on Monday after landlord Manorama Sahoo alerted police about a foul smell emanating from a locked room. During a search, police allegedly found the woman’s body buried in the kitchen and covered with a concrete structure, apparently in an attempt to conceal it.

The deceased woman’s son, Madan Dalei, 40, a native of Parlakhemundi in Gajapati district, is reportedly absconding. Police have launched a search to trace him and are continuing their investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
