Bhubaneswar, Aug 30: In a major relief to cultivators, the Odisha government has decided to extend the ongoing farmer registration period for the current procurement season. The move aims to provide more time for farmers who could not complete their registration within the initial deadline.

Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, while addressing the media on Saturday, said that the extension is being finalized and assured that “no genuine farmer will be left out of the process.” He emphasized that the state is committed to ensuring that every eligible cultivator is included.

According to official figures, this year’s registration drive has received a record response, with 19.66 lakh farmers already enrolled. Interestingly, a large number of individuals who had previously abandoned farming have returned to agriculture, reflecting renewed confidence in the state’s support mechanisms.

The Minister further clarified that registrations using non-agricultural land—such as government plots, cremation grounds, or temple lands—will be canceled after strict field verification. The government believes this extension will bring more authentic cultivators into the fold, ensuring fair procurement and timely benefits for them.
