IMD issues yellow weather warnings for Odisha; thunderstorms and heavy rain likely till September 4

Bhubaneswar, Aug 30: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of yellow weather warnings for Odisha, predicting thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall over the next several days.
According to the IMD’s mid-day bulletin, the monsoon trough currently extends from Bikaner through Kota, Seoni, Durg, Bhawanipatna, and Gopalpur before stretching east-southeast into the central Bay of Bengal. This alignment is expected to intensify rainfall activity across the state.
On August 31, thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30–40 km/h are likely in several districts, including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
On September 1, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Rayagada. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds may also affect 20 other districts, including coastal and western regions.
On September 2, heavy rain is forecast for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Nabarangpur, while thunderstorms are expected in many other districts. The IMD has further cautioned that these conditions, including heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds, are likely to persist across Odisha until September 4.
