Odisha Vigilance raids BMC engineer’s properties, unearths massive assets

Bhubaneswar, July 23: The Odisha Vigilance Department has launched a major crackdown on alleged corruption, conducting extensive searches at properties linked to Jagannath Pattnaik, Executive Engineer of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), and his family members. The raids are part of an ongoing investigation into charges of disproportionate assets amassed by the official beyond known sources of income.
During the house searches, officials uncovered a wide range of high-value properties and possessions. Among the key assets discovered is a triple-storeyed building measuring approximately 4,560 sq. ft. at Badagada, Bhubaneswar. Additionally, a farmhouse spread over 1.57 acres in Ranapur under Balianta Tahasil of Khordha district was found, which includes a double-storeyed building, a 570 sq. ft. house, a fish pond, fruit plantations, and a poultry farm housing 15 chicks.
The team also found three prime land plots, including two in Badagada and one in Khandagiri, along with gold ornaments weighing about 200 grams, financial investments, and a Maruti Grand Vitara car and a two-wheeler. Investigators also recovered a country-made gun and antler horns. A bank locker in the name of Pattnaik’s spouse remains unopened. The Vigilance Technical Wing is currently evaluating the assets, and the probe is ongoing.
