Bhubaneswar, July 23: In a deeply disturbing incident from Raighar block in Nabarangpur district, a young B.Sc. Nursing student allegedly attempted suicide after private photographs of her were leaked on social media. The photos were reportedly shared by a youth involved in a one-sided affair with her.

The victim, who was studying in Jeypore and staying in a hostel, allegedly consumed poison (weedicide) at her home on July 17, following the humiliation and trauma caused by the circulation of the photos. The accused has been identified as Satyajit Sarkar, a B.Sc. Agriculture student from a nearby village.

Reports reveal that on July 13, Satyajit had publicly assaulted the girl in the Jeypore market, injuring her eyes and face. Though a complaint was lodged at Jeypore Town Police Station, the matter was initially settled with a compromise. However, after the girl filed a formal FIR on July 15, Satyajit allegedly posted private photos and videos of her online.

The girl was rushed to Umerkote CHC and later shifted to Raipur, but doctors advised bringing her home on July 21 due to her critical condition. She is currently fighting for her life at home.

A fresh complaint was lodged by her grandfather at Raighar Police Station, prompting police to record her statement and begin an investigation. The family has urged authorities to immediately arrest the accused and ensure justice.
