Internet suspension extended in Bhadrak amid tension over youth’s death; 12 arrested so far

Bhubaneswar, June 13: In view of ongoing tensions and to maintain law and order, internet services in Odisha’s Bhadrak district have been suspended for an additional 12 hours, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. today. The decision was taken following orders from Bhadrak Superintendent of Police Manoj Rout, as the district administration continues to monitor the volatile situation closely.
The suspension affects several areas, including Bhadrak Municipality, Bhadrak Block, Dhamnagar NAC, Dhamnagar Block, and Tihidi Block. Earlier, internet services had already been suspended for 24 hours from 6 a.m. on Tuesday to 6 a.m. today.
The unrest stems from the death of a youth, Santosh Parida, who succumbed to injuries at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar after being attacked by cattle smugglers in Tihidi police limits a few days ago. His wife, Minati Behera, filed a police complaint, following which Tihidi police arrested 12 individuals, including the two main accused.
To maintain peace, 27 platoons of police have been deployed. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh and assured a government job to one member of the bereaved family.
