Odisha Assembly adjourned twice amid opposition uproar over key issues

Bhubaneswar, Feb 14: The Odisha Legislative Assembly witnessed chaotic scenes on Friday as Opposition MLAs created a ruckus, forcing two adjournments before proceedings were halted until 4:00 PM. Speaker Surama Padhy initially adjourned the House till 12:00 noon, but as disruptions continued, she was compelled to suspend proceedings again until 4:00 PM.
As soon as the House convened for the day, BJD legislators raised concerns over the closure of mandis, demanding action from the government, while Congress MLAs sought a debate on the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Both parties stormed into the well of the House, disrupting proceedings, leaving the Speaker with no option but to call for adjournments.
The Budget Session, which commenced on February 13, consists of 28 working days and is being conducted in two phases—from February 13 to 21, and March 7 to April 5. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who also holds the finance portfolio, is set to present the full budget for the second time on February 17, which is expected to highlight key policy decisions and financial allocations for the state.
