Depression over Bangladesh intensifies, brings heavy rain and winds to Bengal
Bhubaneswar, Sept 14: A depression formed over the Bangladesh coast has intensified and moved west-northwest, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to the region.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the deep depression is currently centered over Bangladesh and adjacent Gangetic West Bengal, about 90 km northeast of Canning and 100 km east-northeast of Kolkata.
IMD reports that the system has been moving at 23 kmph over the last six hours and is expected to continue its west-northwestward movement, maintaining its intensity until this evening. Afterward, it is likely to weaken into a depression as it passes over Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand in the next 48 hours.
The IMD is closely monitoring the situation via the Doppler Weather Radar in Kolkata, providing timely updates and warnings. Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain cautious and take necessary safety measures.
