SRC takes swift action amid heavy rainfall in Odisha's Malkangiri

Bhubaneswar, July 20: In response to the heavy rainfall across various parts of Odisha, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has taken immediate action, directing District Collectors to implement proactive measures to reduce the impact.
The SRC has banned vehicle movement on submerged roads and bridges until the water recedes, with local police and officers on-site to manage traffic. Evacuation orders have been issued for residents in low-lying villages if needed, ensuring their safety. The District Collectors have also been instructed to arrange cooked food for those evacuated, addressing their basic needs. These prompt measures aim to lessen the flooding's impact and prioritize the safety of the affected people, particularly in Malkangiri.
Sources report that heavy rainfall has hit several parts of Odisha, with Malkangiri district suffering the most. Waterlogging and flash floods have been reported, prompting the state government to review and take necessary steps to mitigate the impact.
Official reports indicate that various districts of Odisha have seen significant rainfall in the past 24 hours, with Malkangiri receiving an average of 190 mm. Nabarangpur and Koraput followed with 70 mm and 67.4 mm, respectively. Notably, the Khairput block in Malkangiri recorded the highest rainfall, with 221.2 mm in the last 24 hours.
Furthermore, four blocks in Malkangiri district—Chitrakonda, Korkunda, Khairput, and Kalimela—experienced exceptionally heavy rainfall, each receiving over 200 mm.
