Sundergarh district sees spike in dengue: 57 cases in Rourkela city alone

Bhubaneswar, July 10: With dengue cases rising in Sundergarh district, 64 people have tested positive, with 57 from Rourkela city, 2 from Birmitrapur, and 5 from other district areas.
Sector 14 of Rourkela has been declared a hotspot zone due to the high number of cases, prompting the district administration to identify it as high-risk. The administration has implemented sanitation and surveillance measures to control the situation.
The surge in dengue cases in Rourkela has raised alarm, with 14 sectors identified as hotspots. The health department is intensifying testing and surveillance efforts to contain the spread. Residents are urged to take precautions against mosquito bites and report any symptoms immediately.
Currently, seven patients are receiving treatment at Rourkela Government Hospital, while others are being treated at private facilities. The district health department is closely monitoring the situation and has assured that all necessary steps are being taken to prevent further spread.
Bhakta Mohan Swain, Additional District Public Health Officer, stated, “Rourkela urban suburb has the highest number of dengue patients. We have identified 64 dengue-positive cases. With people from different parts of the state, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, regularly coming to Rourkela, it is natural for Steel City to witness a rise in dengue cases annually. However, the situation is under control.”
