Odisha braces for highest July rainfall, five districts on alert

Bhubaneswar, July 2: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts, Odisha is poised to experience its highest rainfall in July, with five districts expected to receive above-average precipitation.
The districts likely to receive significant rainfall include Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Keonjhar. Additionally, isolated areas in Koraput and Malkangiri may also see above-normal rainfall.
IMD's regional center has predicted above-normal rainfall in interior Odisha, while some parts of the western region are expected to receive lower amounts of rain.
As of July 2, the state has recorded 164 mm of rainfall since June 1, which is approximately 24% below the expected normal of 216.5 mm.
Malkangiri has observed above-average rainfall, with Mayurbhanj district experiencing notably humid conditions. Thirteen districts have received above-average rainfall, while fifteen have experienced moderate rainfall, according to IMD's Regional Center.
IMD forecasts indicate light to moderate rainfall over the next five days, with the possibility of heavy rain in Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Rayagada, Deogarh, Sambalpur, and Bargarh by Tuesday morning.
Intermittent rain is expected in districts including Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur over the next 24 hours.
