Bhubaneswar, April 1: President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Odisha Governor Raghubar Das, and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik extended their wishes to the state on Utkala Dibasa, observed annually on April 1 to commemorate its establishment after a prolonged struggle spanning over three centuries.

On April 1, 1936, Odisha embarked on a new journey following its separation from Bengal and Bihar under British rule. Originating from the ancient Kalinga kingdom, ruled by Emperor Ashok and later by the renowned conqueror and Jainism advocate, Kharavela, the region witnessed Mughal incursions and subsequent subjugation.

Recognized as Odisha Foundation Day and Bishuva Milan, this occasion holds deep historical significance for the state.

President Murmu acknowledged Odisha's abundant natural resources and cultural heritage, praising its resilient populace for their significant contributions to both state and national development.

Prime Minister Modi, conveying his wishes in Odia, highlighted the rich cultural heritage and dynamic people of Odisha, lauding their substantial contributions to the nation's progress.

Governor Raghubar Das conveyed his greetings to the people of Odisha, emphasizing the state's sacredness, cultural richness, and the need for collective commitment towards its prosperous transformation.
