Top-wanted Maoist with Rs 1 lakh reward surrenders in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jan 10: On Wednesday, a female Maoist with a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on her head surrendered to Malkangiri SP, marking a significant development in anti-Maoist operations. The surrendered Maoist, identified as Ungi Madvi, also known as Rosni (20), hails from Pitadaba village in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, falling under Dabba gram panchayat and Katekalyan police limits.
Rosni, who joined the outlawed CPI(Maoist) in 2016, served as a party member in Mahupadar, located in Kanger Ghati of Darbha Division under the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC). She carried a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh, declared by the Government of Odisha.
Malkangiri SP Nitesh Wadhwani announced the surrender, highlighting its significance in curbing Maoist activities. Wadhwani stated, "It is a commendable achievement for the operational staff, considering the woman Maoist's active involvement in various incidents across Odisha for the past eight years. Besides Odisha, she operated in neighboring states."
According to Wadhwani, Rosni was implicated in at least 48 cases in Odisha, involving incidents like IED blasts and ambushes on security forces.
The SP explained Rosni's decision to surrender, stating, "Observing the developmental initiatives by the Government of Odisha in Malkangiri, she realized the futility of the violent Naxalism path. She understood that the Maoists, through their subversive activities, hindered the region's development. They manipulated innocent tribals to fight among themselves, and once their utility was over, branded them as police informers, leading to merciless killings."
