Berhampur youth with severe burns shifted to SCB Hospital after self-immolation attempt

Bhubaneswar, Sept 11: A disturbing incident has come to light in Berhampur, where a youth attempted self-immolation at Methu Chhak under Bada Bazar police station limits. The victim, identified as Suraj Sahu, poured petrol on himself and set himself ablaze, leaving the local community in shock.
According to reports, Suraj, a resident of Berhampur, sustained nearly 80% burn injuries in the incident. He was initially rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where doctors provided emergency treatment. However, as his condition deteriorated, he was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced medical care.
Before the drastic act, Suraj reportedly posted a cryptic message on Instagram that read: “If something happens to me, no one is responsible.” The message has raised several questions about the circumstances leading to his decision and has prompted widespread concern among his acquaintances.
Police have launched a probe to ascertain the reasons behind the extreme step. Investigators are examining his social media activities and personal background to piece together the factors that may have driven him to such a tragic act.
