Three killed in tragic road accident on Bhubaneswar–Puri Highway
Bhubaneswar, Mar 16: A tragic road accident near the Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA) on the Bhubaneswar–Puri National Highway claimed the lives of three people, including two women and a car driver, on Monday morning.
According to reports, the two women were out for a morning walk along the highway when a speeding car allegedly hit them from behind. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving both women critically injured. They died on the spot due to the intensity of the crash.
After hitting the pedestrians, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The car then rammed into an electric pole on the roadside before plunging into a nearby drain. The driver died instantly inside the vehicle following the crash, while another occupant of the car sustained serious injuries.
Soon after the incident was reported, rescue teams from the Odisha Fire and Emergency Services, including personnel from the Pipili fire station, rushed to the accident site. Firefighters conducted a rescue operation and retrieved the driver’s body from the submerged vehicle.
Police from Odisha Police reached the scene shortly afterward and began an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Authorities are also working to identify the deceased and verify further details surrounding the tragic mishap.
