Several students injured in hostel clash at private college in Khordha; police launch probe
Bhubaneswar, July 29: Tension gripped a private college hostel at Gangapada under the Infovalley police station limits in Khordha district after a violent clash reportedly broke out between two groups of students late on Tuesday night. The altercation, said to have involved first-year and second-year students, escalated into a serious confrontation, leaving several students injured and triggering panic across the hostel premises.
According to preliminary reports, the dispute began following an argument between the two groups before turning violent. During the clash, several first-year students were allegedly attacked with knives, resulting in injuries. The exact number of injured students and the extent of their injuries were not immediately known. Some of the injured were reportedly provided medical assistance, while authorities are assessing the severity of the incident.
The violence created chaos inside the hostel, with frightened students rushing out of their rooms. Hostel property was also allegedly vandalised during the confrontation, causing damage to furniture and other facilities.
Sources claimed that incidents of unrest and clashes had occurred at the hostel on earlier occasions as well, raising serious concerns about campus discipline, hostel security and the effectiveness of administrative measures to prevent such incidents.
On receiving information, a team from Infovalley police station immediately reached the hostel and brought the situation under control. Police dispersed the students, restored order and began collecting evidence from the scene.
An investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact cause of the clash and identify those responsible for the violence. Police are examining CCTV footage, recording statements of students and hostel authorities, and verifying whether sharp weapons were used during the incident. Authorities have assured that appropriate legal action will be taken against those found involved, while efforts are underway to prevent any further escalation of tension on the campus.
