Two more arrested in ₹11.55 crore Khordha jewellery heist case

Bhubaneswar, Sept 12: In a significant development, police have arrested two more accused in connection with the sensational jewellery heist that shook Khordha district on August 24. With these fresh arrests, the total number of apprehended persons has risen to six, bringing the police closer to cracking the entire network behind the daring daylight robbery.
According to officials, the incident occurred at Sai Sonu Alankar jewellery shop in Chhanagiri under Jankia police limits. On that day, a gang of eight miscreants, armed with guns, bombs, and sharp weapons, barged into the shop after creating panic by hurling bombs outside. They looted 11.5 kg of gold and 5 kg of silver ornaments, estimated at over ₹11.55 crore. The gang also assaulted staff and threatened them at gunpoint before escaping on four motorcycles.
The investigation revealed that a 10-member gang was involved in planning and executing the crime. Police had earlier arrested four accused, including a receiver of the stolen ornaments. With the latest two arrests, efforts are now underway to nab the remaining culprits and recover the looted valuables.
