Cyclone Arnab impact: Ganjam, Gajapati close educational institutions till October 31
Bhubaneswar, Oct 29: In view of the continued heavy rainfall and flood-like situation triggered by Cyclone Arnab, the district administrations of Ganjam and Gajapati in Odisha have ordered the closure of educational institutions until October 31, 2026.
According to an official order issued by the Office of the Collector and District Magistrate, Ganjam, all Anganwadi centres, schools, degree colleges, technical institutions and university departments operating within the district will remain closed until October 31.
The order continues the earlier directives issued vide Office Order Nos. 3178 and 3181 dated October 26, 2026. All heads of institutions have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the directive, which came into force with immediate effect.
Similarly, the Gajapati district administration has announced the closure of all schools in the district until October 31, citing prevailing adverse weather conditions and the risks associated with persistent rainfall.
Both districts have experienced incessant rainfall over the past several days following the impact of Cyclone Arnab. Several rivers are reportedly flowing at elevated levels, while low-lying areas have been inundated, raising concerns over public safety and transportation.
The precautionary closures aim to ensure the safety of students, teachers and other staff amid the continuing adverse weather conditions. Residents have been advised to remain alert and follow official instructions.
