Berhampur MP seeks postponement of OPSC OES Main Exam amid Cyclone Arnab crisis
Bhubaneswar, Oct 29: Berhampur MP Dr. Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy has urged Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to postpone the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) Odisha Education Service (OES) Main Examination scheduled for October 31, 2026, in view of the severe cyclone and flood situation in southern Odisha.
In an urgent letter to the Chief Minister, the MP said hundreds of aspirants from Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur and Kandhamal had approached him, expressing difficulties in appearing for the examination.
Panigrahy cited several concerns, including waterlogging at the Berhampur examination centre, cancellation of private and government buses, and adverse weather warnings issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). He said travelling to examination centres could pose serious risks to candidates, particularly those from remote areas.
He also highlighted power outages and mobile network disruptions, which have prevented some aspirants from downloading admit cards and accessing examination-related updates.
Additionally, the cancellation of leave for government employees engaged in cyclone relief operations until October 31 could affect in-service candidates.
The MP appealed to the Chief Minister and OPSC authorities to postpone the examination and announce a fresh date after conditions improve, citing candidates’ safety and fairness in the recruitment process.
