New low-pressure system likely to intensify into depression over Bay of Bengal by October 31: IMD
Bhubaneswar, Oct 29: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that a new low-pressure area over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining regions is likely to intensify into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal, adjoining Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Andaman Sea around October 31.
According to the weather agency, the low-pressure system was observed over the South Andaman Sea and neighbourhood at 11:30 am on Thursday. It is expected to move west-northwestwards and develop into a depression by October 31. The system may intensify further and continue moving in the same direction towards the Andhra Pradesh coast over the following two days.
Meanwhile, the depression, which is the remnant of Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Arnab’, continued moving northwards at a speed of around 23 kmph over central Chhattisgarh and adjoining Odisha.
The system was centred near latitude 20.2°N and longitude 81.7°E, about 170 km west of Titlagarh and 270 km west-southwest of Sambalpur in Odisha.
The IMD stated that the depression is likely to move northwards and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining northwest Odisha by Thursday evening.
