Odisha Police arrest 157 in statewide crackdown on drug trafficking under ‘Operation Prahar’

Bhubaneswar, Sept 11: Odisha Police have intensified their fight against narcotics with a massive statewide crackdown, ‘Operation Prahar’, conducted between September 1 and 7. The operation led to the registration of 110 cases and the arrest of 157 persons involved in drug trafficking and abuse across the state.
During the week-long drive, police teams carried out extensive raids in various districts, resulting in the seizure of large quantities of contraband. Officials confirmed the recovery of 4,808 kg of ganja, 2,374 grams of brown sugar, and 3,052 bottles of cough syrup used for illegal consumption.
Out of the total cases, 72 were linked to ganja trafficking, leading to the arrest of 93 people. Similarly, 27 cases were registered for brown sugar smuggling, with 45 accused arrested. In addition, 19 persons were arrested for trafficking cough syrup. Authorities also took action under Section 129 of the BNSS against 70 individuals and sealed three shops found to be directly involved in the illegal trade.
The Odisha Police said the operation reflects the state government’s commitment to building a drug-free Odisha and ensuring a safer environment for its citizens, especially the youth.
