BJD suspends senior leader Prafulla Kumar Mallik for anti-party activities

Bhubaneswar, Sept 12: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has taken strict disciplinary action against senior leader Prafulla Kumar Mallik, suspending him from the party with immediate effect over alleged involvement in anti-party activities. A formal order issued by the party stated, “Sri Prafulla Kumar Mallik, Ex-MLA Kamakhyanagar, District Dhenkanal, is hereby suspended from Biju Janata Dal for his involvement in anti-party activities with immediate effect.”
Mallik, a veteran leader who had also served as a minister, courted controversy on Thursday after openly expressing dissatisfaction with the BJD’s functioning. He accused the party of failing to discharge its role as the main opposition in Odisha and even threatened to resign, citing the party’s inability to represent people’s concerns effectively.
The remarks drew a sharp response from BJD spokesperson Pratap Jena, who dismissed Mallik as an “opportunistic politician” driven by personal motives rather than public interest.
Mallik’s suspension marks another instance of the BJD leadership cracking down on dissent within its ranks, as the party works to maintain unity and discipline in a changing political landscape.
