BJD suspends three leaders over alleged anti-party activities during student union elections
Bhubaneswar, Oct 13: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has suspended three of its leaders for their alleged involvement in anti-party activities during the ongoing Student Union Elections-2026 in Odisha.
According to office orders issued on Monday, the disciplinary action was taken by party president Naveen Patnaik and communicated through General Secretary Bijaya Nayak.
Among those suspended is Murari Sripati Nayak, a BJD member from the Puri Assembly Constituency in Puri district. He has been suspended over his alleged involvement in activities against the party’s interests during the student union elections.
The party has also suspended Amita Swain, a Zilla Parishad member from Naugaon, and Chandrasekhar Dash, a Zilla Parishad member from Biridi in Jagatsinghpur district. Their suspensions have taken effect immediately, according to the official orders.
The action comes at a time when student union elections have generated considerable political activity and tensions across several colleges in Odisha. Reports of disruptions and cancellations at some institutions have added to the uncertainty surrounding the electoral process.
The suspensions indicate the party’s move to take disciplinary action against members accused of working against its interests during the election period. However, the office orders cited the alleged anti-party activities as the basis for the action without providing further details of the specific charges.
Further developments are awaited as the student union election process continues across the state.
