Odisha's COVID tally rises to 26 amid Omicron sub-variant concerns

Bhubaneswar, Jan 5: On Friday, the total number of active COVID cases in Odisha increased to 26, following the identification of a new case within the last 24 hours. Notably, two of these cases involve infection with JN.1, a sub-variant of Omicron.
The health condition of all the patients is reported to be stable, with 25 of them receiving treatment in home isolation. Only one patient, who also has comorbidities, has been admitted to the hospital.
Across the country, a total of 4,334 new COVID cases have been reported in the past 24 hours. Kerala recorded the highest number of new cases, with 215 infections.
During this period, 12 patients have unfortunately succumbed to the infection. Among them, five deaths occurred in Kerala, four in Karnataka, two in Maharashtra, and one in Uttar Pradesh.
