GI Glory for Odisha: Lanjia paintings and six local products earn prestigious tags

Bhubaneswar, Jan 4: The Odisha Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Department announced on Wednesday that seven products, along with Lanjia paintings from the state, have been awarded the prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
The products that have secured the GI tags encompass Odisha Khajuri Guda (date palm jaggery), Dhenkanal Magji, Mayurbhanj Kai chutney, Nayagarh Kanteimundi Baigan, and Dongaria Kondh embroidered shawl. Additionally, Kendrapara Rasabali, Koraput Kalajeera rice, and Paintings of Lanjia Saura have also been bestowed with the GI tag.
Notably, the GI tag has been granted to Kendrapara Rasabali (a dessert), Koraput Kalajeera rice, and the distinctive paintings of Lanjia Saura.
Highlighting the process, the Nilamadhab Krushi Sagathan initiated the GI registration application for Kanteimundi brinjal on February 8, 2021. The process was facilitated by the OUAT in Bhubaneswar and the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Nayagarh, ultimately leading to the successful acquisition of the GI tag certificate for Kanteimundi brinjal.
