Notorious criminal injured in police encounter in Puri district

Puri, Dec 28: A notorious criminal, identified as Kalu Bhol, sustained critical injuries during a police encounter in Suando village under Satyabadi police limits in Puri district on Thursday.
Kalu Bhol, known for planning a major crime at Suando bridge, was targeted by a Satyabadi police station team following a tip-off. In an attempt to evade arrest, Kalu opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate in self-defense, resulting in bullet injuries to his right leg.
Subsequently, Kalu was rescued and swiftly transported to the district headquarters hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment, as confirmed by the police.
Hailing from Batagaan under Sadar police limits in Puri, Kalu has been involved in a myriad of criminal activities since 2009, with a total of 18 pending cases against him in various police stations across the district. According to police sources, Kalu's criminal record includes offenses such as robbery, extortion, and bombings, often executed with firearms. He had been on the run since August after committing a crime, with law enforcement consistently tracking his movements.
Bishnu Prasad Pati, Puri Additional SP, revealed that a 7.65 mm pistol and live bullets were seized from Kalu during the encounter. The incident sheds light on the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to apprehend individuals with a history of criminal activities in the region.
