Congress leader Narasingha Mishra opts out of 2024 Assembly Elections

Balangir, Oct 16: Veteran Congress leader Narasingha Mishra made a significant announcement on Sunday, declaring his decision not to participate in the 2024 Assembly elections.
Addressing the media in this regard, Mishra expressed that he had firmly resolved not to contest in the upcoming Assembly elections. He stated, "I have made a personal decision not to be part of the electoral competition this time. I will formally communicate this decision to the party's leadership in the near future."
At 83 years of age and currently serving as the MLA from Balangir, Mishra attributed his choice to health-related considerations. Nevertheless, he stressed that the ultimate decision rested with the party, and he would comply with their judgment.
Mishra hinted that his son, Samarendra Mishra, might step forward as the Congress candidate for the Balangir Assembly constituency. He noted, "While I am confident that Samarendra will secure the party's nomination, the decision is yet to be finalized by the party."
He further affirmed his commitment to actively support the Congress in various election-related activities, including campaigning for the party's candidates within the district.
Samarendra, who previously contested as the Congress candidate for Balangir in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, holds membership within the All India Congress Committee (AICC). During a function in Cuttack on Saturday, Samarendra expressed his interest in contesting as the Congress nominee for the Balangir Assembly seat.
