No flood threat in Odisha rivers, confirms Water Resources Department

Bhubaneswar, Sept 6: Bringing much-needed relief to the people of Odisha, the Water Resources Department on Saturday confirmed that no river in the state is currently facing a flood-like situation. Authorities clarified that most major rivers are flowing well below the danger mark, easing concerns of widespread inundation.
Chandra Sekhar Padhi, Engineer-in-Chief of the department, said that rivers such as the Budhabalanga and Baitarani, which often raise flood fears during intense monsoon rains, are flowing at safe levels. Only the Jalaka River, which briefly crossed the danger mark earlier this week, has now started to recede. “There is absolutely no cause for panic. The overall water situation remains stable and under control,” Padhi assured.
The official further highlighted that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted no major rainfall in the next seven days, which will allow river levels to fall further.
At the Hirakud Reservoir, the water level was recorded at 626.35 feet at 9 am Saturday. While four gates have been closed, controlled discharge continues through 20 gates, balancing an inflow of 3.85 lakh cusecs and an outflow of 4.24 lakh cusecs.
All vulnerable points across embankments and reservoirs are under round-the-clock monitoring, ensuring preparedness against any sudden change in conditions.
