IMD predicts heavy rainfall across Odisha, yellow warning issued for 20 districts

Bhubaneswar, Aug 21: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted spells of heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha, warning residents to remain cautious until August 25.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, scattered heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms are likely to affect Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Balasore, and Bargarh districts today. A yellow warning has been issued, indicating possible waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and damage to standing crops in some areas.
On August 22, heavy rainfall is expected to persist in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bargarh. Similarly, parts of North and Western Odisha may witness intense showers on August 23 and 24, raising concerns of local flooding.
The IMD has also sounded a yellow alert for 20 districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, and others.
Meanwhile, rainfall activity has already been reported in different regions, with Dhenkanal recording 27.4 mm, Jagatsinghpur 21.1 mm, Paralakhemundi 15.2 mm, and Talcher 13.8 mm. Authorities have urged people to stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and closely follow official weather updates for safety.
